NEW Fire Safety Regulations due to be enforced from 1st October 2023

From the 1st October 2023, new fire safety guidance will be put in place for all buildings which are regulated by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO).

The measure has been introduced as part of Phase 3 of the Home Office’s Fire Safety Reform Programme. The new guidance aims to create an important stage in fire safety for all FSO regulated premises, by improving fire safety across the UK and especially for those in multi-occupancy residential buildings.

Fire Safety Regulation improvements

The new regulations also aim to improve cooperation between (RPs) Responsible Persons and increase requirements when recording and sharing fire safety information. Furthermore, it will simplify the process for enforcement authorities to instigate action against non-compliance and finally, ensure that property residence have the correct access to fire safety information with regards to their building.

There is also an addition with three new fire safety guides being introduced (to replace the previous short guide). These relate to, non-domestic premises, small blocks of flats, and small sleeping accommodation. The guides have been published to advise Responsible Persons on how to understand and meet the new fire regulation criteria.
